EASST/4S 2024: Short Story, Flash Fiction, and Poetry Competition - deadline 1 June 2024
n Apologies for cross-posting – EASST/4S 2024: Short Story, Flash Fiction, and Poetry Competition Organised by Michela Cozza (Mälardalen University), Nina Klimburg-Witjes (University of Vienna) & Sally Wyatt (Maastricht University) We want to build on the success of the first-ever creative writing competition held in conjunction with the EASST conference in Madrid in July 2022. For a description and the winning entries see Michela Cozza, Nina Klimburg Witjes and Sally Wyatt “First-ever poetry, flash fiction and short story competition”, in EASST Review 42(2), 2022. We are holding a second short story, flash fiction, and poetry competition for conference participants. Winners will be announced during the conference (date and time to be confirmed at a later stage). There will be prizes. Winning entries will be published in the conference issue of the EASST Review later in 2024. Rules Please read the rules carefully before submitting your entry. General • The competition is open to all conference participants. • All entries must relate to the theme of the conference: Making and doing transformations. • All entries must be in the working language of the conference, namely English. • The closing date of the competition is midnight (CET), 1 June 2024. • A single entrant may submit a maximum of one entry per category. • Entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy. • Under no circumstances can alterations be made to poems or stories after they have been submitted. • All entries must be the entrant’s original work. • Entries may be single or multiply authored. • Entries must not have been published, self-published, published on a website or made public on social media, broadcast or featured among the winners in another competition before 20 July 2024. • All entries should be sent to this email address: scifi.easst.2024@gmail.com • Entrants will receive confirmation of their submission. • The competition organisers reserve the right to change the judging panel without notice and not to award prizes if, in the judges’ opinion, such an action is justified. • The judges read all the entries; their decisions are final. Additional Rules: Poems • All poems must have a title and must not exceed 40 lines in length (excluding title). • Poems may be in any form or style, serious or humorous, including experimental and concrete/visual poetry, found text and erasure, prose poems, etc. Additional Rules: Flash Fiction · Flash fiction must have a title and not exceed 250 words in length (excluding title). Rules: Winners · Prize winners will be notified by 1 July 2024 and invited to the awards event to be held during the conference (exact time and date to be decided). · We cannot contact all entrants individually. Thus no communication from the judges means that your entry has not won, but thank you for participating. · Copyright of each poem remains with the author/s. However, authors of the winning poem, flash fiction, and story, by entering the competition, agree that their entries will be published by EASST Review. After this, winners may seek further publication.
