4S Panel: Caring for, sharing, and reusing data as emic STS practices
Dear all, Interested in data sharing, data reuse and open science? Andrew Hoffman and I are moderating a panel at the upcoming 4S Conference on November 8-11 on these topics within STS. The deadline for abstract submissions (up to 250 words) is this Friday, May 26. We welcome both online participation and in-person submissions. Looking forward to your submissions and the discussion! Caring for, sharing, and reusing data as emic STS practices (Panel 96) https://4sonline.org/news_manager.php?page=31443 Under the banner of 'Open Science,' funding agencies, universities, and publishers are implementing policies requiring researchers to share their research data as openly as possible -- or to otherwise justify why they're not. Such demands have been taken up in STS and adjacent fields as objects of study and critique, while data management, data care, and data sharing/reuse are emerging elements of STS practice itself. This panel explores what data care/management, sharing, and reuse look like as emic STS practices. What do we construe to be data in STS? How are we (not) caring for/managing our own data, and for the data of our fellow researchers? How and where do we share data, with whom, and to what ends? What practical, methodological, and epistemological challenges do we face as we (try to) do so? And what infrastructures are we (dreaming of) creating to facilitate data management, sharing, and reuse in our field(s)? We invite contributions that discuss and reflect on: – examples of (attempted) data sharing in STS projects, focusing on successes and also failures – the affordances/challenges of reusing data in STS research – the epistemic politics of data sharing practices and infrastructures in STS and adjacent fields – the development (or lack thereof) of metadata standards/classifications used for describing STS data – concrete interventions and innovations in STS data management practice – the applicability of STS knowledge/expertise to careers in research data management Organizers: Kathleen Gregory, University of Vienna; Andrew Hoffman, Leiden University Best wishes, Kathleen --- Kathleen Gregory Postdoctoral researcher University of Vienna Guest researcher Centre for Science & Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University kathleen.gregory@univie.ac.at | kathleen-gregory.com _______________________________________________ EASST's Eurograd mailing list Eurograd (at) lists.easst.net Unsubscribe or edit subscription options: http://lists.easst.net/listinfo.cgi/eurograd-easst.net Meet us via https://twitter.com/STSeasst Report abuses of this list to Eurograd-owner@lists.easst.netview formatted text
