Hi everyone, I have an open PhD Cand. position in my „Platform Governance, Media and Technology“ Lab at the University of Bremen. Please check and potentially forward to your students and colleagues. The fixed-term contract is for scientific qualification according to § 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). Accordingly, only applicants who still have qualification periods to the corresponding extent according to § 2 para. 1 WissZeitVG can be considered. Job description We are looking for a person with an interest in (and ideally initial experience in) research on platforms, their role in social and media change, and their governance. In an international team of postdocs and PhD students, we research at the lab the interplay between regulation, discourses and the development of technologies - currently with a focus on platforms and "artificial intelligence". To this end, we use innovative combinations of qualitative and digital methods. With the Platform Governance Archive (http://platformgovernancearchive.org), we also provide research data as resources for the research community. Tasks: • Independent researchin the form of a PhD to the extent of one third of working hours. The scientific research work in the above-mentioned field is to be deepened in a dissertation. • Scientific research activities to the extent of one third of the working time: • Collaboration in ongoing research projects of the ZeMKI Lab "Platform Governance, Media, and Technology", especially in the area of platform governance. • Collaboration in the operation and further development of the Platform Governance Archive • Collaboration in the acquisition of third-party funding • Preparation and implementation of scientific conferences • Support in academic self-administration • Academic services in teaching to the extent of 2 SWS or one third of the working time: • Conducting tutorials or seminars in BA and MA study programs • Preparation of teaching materials • Supervision of seminar papers, term papers, presentations and Bachelor's and Master's theses. Requirements • Above-average academic degree (master's/diploma) in communication and media studies or another discipline relevant to the topic area • Sound methodological training (especially with regard to qualitative methods and digital methods) • Previous knowledge of or high interest in the above-mentioned main research areas • Willingness to pursue further academic qualification (doctorate) in the above-mentioned field • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English, knowledge of German would be an advantage • High level of commitment and initiative, ability to work in a team, careful and reliable working methods • Willingness to participate in academic self-administration • Willingness to teach in accordance with the LVNV (Lehrverpflichtungs- und Lehrnachweisordnung).
