Call for Post-doc Research Fellow for 'Automating Universal Credit'

                Dear colleague,

I hope you’re safe and staying well.

We are accepting applications for a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Edinburgh to carry out research on the effects of automation of Universal Credit (UC), the UK’s largest social security payment, and on democratic experiments in auditing this system by users.

Through interviews with stakeholders and participatory design workshops with users, the project will map the UC system to understand the political values and policies that drive it. The study will also contribute to national and international debates about the ethics and governance of automation in social security systems, as well as how claimants perceive – and may shape – these developments.

The position is full time (35 hours per week) for a fixed term starting 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023 (with some flexibility on the start date). Postdocs would be supported by the School of Social and Political Sciences.

Applications are due on February 20, 2022. Please spread word among your students, colleagues and networks about this opportunity.

Applications can be submitted here: https://elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1001/job/2978/?utm_medium=jobshare

Inquires may be directed to Morgan Currie at morgan.currie@ed.ac.uk

Take good care,
Morgan
